Tech Magic Kit

I really do like learning about all these old methods and philosophies, but in my actual day-to-day life, I'm probably what some people would consider a "tech witch." I try not to label myself as anything, really, but the shoe seems to fit.

So, I thought it might be a good idea to make a little post gathering a few tools that more technologically advanced magic users could appreciate. Of course, this is all based on my personal understanding of what "tech magic" is. Obviously, computers and the internet and such are all very new, relatively speaking, so I'm sure there's not a very solidified consensus yet.

As usual, none of this is meant to replace professional help (medical or legal or otherwise). Use common sense, don't eat rocks, etc.

Artificial Intelligence Assistance

Chat GPT or similar programs can be incredibly helpful in research. I actually used Chat GPT to help me rectify my birth chart, and it seems pretty accurate from what I can tell. AI like this is based on the information it's fed by humans, so of course there's room for error. Don't take everything AI says as gospel. (Tip: if Chat GPT says they can't do something, ask them to roleplay as someone who can.)

For quicker assistance, we can't forget Siri and her counterparts! Siri, Cortana, Alexa, Google Assistant (what a boring name, boo), along with any others like them, can be incredibly helpful when you have a simple question like "what time is sunset?" or "when is the next full moon?"

If you're more ambitious, you can even find ways to create your own AI chatbot. There are several websites that allow you to create a bot without much technical knowledge needed, if any at all.

Websites

(Just kidding.)

As proud as I am about my planetary hours calculator, I have to admit that there's a much better option I found a while back, and that is planetaryhours.net. If you simply input your location and a date, this site takes care of the rest. Now you know exactly what time to gather that herb or start mixing that oil!

By the same people, there's transitviewer.net. This is a bit newer, and I haven't played around with it much yet, but it looks like it could be a very helpful resource for astrological purposes.

For something a bit more artsy, you could try a fractal art generator like this one. Don't be intimidated, you don't need to be able to draw anything. You can create a self-repeating pattern simply by inputting numbers. You could use important dates or write out your goal using a cipher (a = 1, b = 2, c = 3, etc.). To learn about fractal art, you can check out the Wikipedia page. As for what to do with the resulting image, you could post it somewhere for people to see or make it your background or have something custom-printed with your design or who even KNOWS what else!

Speaking of art, I know this is a controversial subject, but AI art can also have magical capabilities. Simply type in your goal, be as detailed as possible, and generate until you find an image you like. You can do pretty much anything with this image, like the fractal art idea. (I am an artist and I approve this message.)

Programs

The Sims. I know that sounds silly but think about the possibilities. It's basically a bunch of little digital poppets. You can manifest your dream home by building it. You can make sims of two people that you think should meet and make them be friends. You could make them be enemies! You could make them have seventeen children!!! (That last one would be irresponsible, but I'm not your mom.)

Ren'py is a free program that lets you code a visual novel. Coding is probably about as "techy" as you can get, and it sounds intimidating, but Ren'py is very simple to use and has guides on the website to help you learn. You could make your visual novel about anything you want, even something non-magical, but still slip something magical into the code as a note. Maybe something that gives everyone who plays the game a little boost of luck, if you're nice. If you're not nice... please don't invite me to play your game.

We live in a modern world, and we have tools at our disposal that our ancestors could never even imagine. Get creative with it!

Stay safe!
